Shoulder Reel / High Reel

Summary

The poi spins around in a circle both at in front and behind is called Shoulder Reel. This movement is the combination of Carry Turn and Shoulder Reel Turn and reciprocating those two.

How to

  1. From forward spinning to backward spinning is Carry Turn.
  2. And go back to the direction you turned from by doing Shoulder Reel Turn. Leave the poi orbit as it flows and just turn your body 90 to the side to make turns.
  3. Your face is facing to the front, and spin the poi as close as possible to your shoulders.
  4. The poi in your left hand spins a circle at in front and behind of your left shoulder, and the poi in your right hand spins at in front and back of your right shoulder.
  5. After you are familiar with this movement, spin it less between the turns.
  6. When there is no unnecessary spins between the turns, the poi spins a circle for once both at in front and behind and it means you're doing it right.
  7. Let's practice on the other side as well.

Tips

When poi is passing in front of your body, it's posssible to make it a big spin. This is called Giant Shoulder Reel.
